When Did You First Notice
They Were Missing?

"Indeed, this was the 13th production of
1776 I'd seen dating back to the
original, but I'd never witnessed an audience respond as enthusiastically.
There was hearty laughter, a roar and a belly laugh at almost every joke."
PETER FILICHIA, Theater Critic

An Inspired Act of Creativity
"The most impressive cast of formidable
female acting talent we're likely to see
on a local stage anytime soon. (The ending
of the show) is stunning, and if that's not enough for you get your patriotic groove on, then nothing will. This is superior material performed by a superior cast. What more could you ask for?"

All-Female Cast of 1776 Gives Birth to a New Tradition
"The accolades have been coming fast and furious for Musical Theatre Heritage’s all-female cast of 1776, and the praise is well and truly deserved. This production of 1776 is as robust and detailed and inspiring as any you are likely to see....As individuals, everyone is a strong performer; as a group, the electricity they create in a room is spectacular."

1776 - Run, Don't Walk
to Go See This Show

"I don’t think I can offer up 1,776 reasons to see Musical Theater Heritage’s production of Sherman Edwards’ musical, but I could probably give it a try. It might take more words than most people want to read, but let’s just put it this way — it’s a satisfying evening of great entertainment, a whole lot of history thrown in and Deb Bluford. This name alone should have everyone running, not walking, to the Off Center Theatre in Crown Center."

What is A Staged Concert?

"A well executed staged concert focuses on the heart of a musical theater experience: the script and score. Props, set and staging are suggestions rather than fully executed elements. The beauty of a staged concert from an artistic standpoint is that once you establish the framework of the format to your audience there are really no limits to pushing the boundaries of that framework in the name of creativity and experimentation. The benefit from a production standpoint is that financially it allows theater groups of any size to produce the piece. In the right hands, the Staged Concert format has proven itself to be equally as powerful as a full production."

Sarah Crawford   SARAH CRAWFORD
Director and Music Director
Kansas City Music Theater 1776 Stage Concert, 2010

"It certainly wasn’t easy to assemble 24 women for our interpretation of 1776 and to make it resonate the way the composer and author intended in a concert type production. But, the success of our efforts at doing so last August was the most thrilling and satisfying of my theatrical career. I have learned that you need to take chances and risks to create interesting theater, and to live through that process, you must have faith in your collaborators. And part of the ‘art’ is selecting the right ones like Sarah Crawford, our Director and Chad Gerlt our Associate Producer."
